What We Do and How We Help

Translation and Education

COMSA understands that becoming fluent in English takes time. While we partner with Literacy Green Bay to help individuals learn English, we also have multi-lingual staff fluent in English, Somali, Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Ukrainian, and Russian to support individuals while they work to acquire a new language.

Imagine you picked up your mail but couldn’t read it, how would you know which envelopes were important? Translation support ranges from employment and government forms to healthcare, financial documents, and more.

Employment and Job Training Assistance

In collaboration with the Bay Area Workforce Development Board, the Job Center, and a number of local employers, our team provides support in matching an individual’s employment goals with job opportunities, completing applications, and interviewing.

COMSA staff also supports local employers. This ranges from support with the onboarding of individuals with limited English language skills to multi-lingual training for culturally responsive childcare, CDL licensing, and more.

K-12 Refugee School Impact & Mentorship

For youth who have lived in refugee camps for years before receiving refugee resettlement assignments, formal education is often no longer an option. When arriving in the United States, they may not be able to understand English, yet they must attend the same classes and pass the same tests as any student their age.

Through a strong collaboration with the Green Bay Area Public School District, these students are supported and empowered in their educational journey and adjustment to a new school environment. When the formal school day is over, COMSA staff provide additional instruction and tutoring to ensure homework is not just completed, but understood and learned. They also communicate with parents to help them adjust to supporting their children with this new education system.
