MURPHY FAMILY DONATES $300,000 to Support Culturally Specific Resource Centers in Brown County

GREEN BAY, WI -In a huge show of support and solidarity, Mark and Laurie Murphy, have contributed $100,000 each to three culturally specific resource centers serving Brown County, totaling $300,000.

The recipients are:

  • COMSA Immigrant and Refugee Resource Center

  • Casa ALBA Melanie Hispanic Resource Center

  • We All Rise African American Resource Center

These three non-profits continually stand together for a common goal to strengthen every member across our community.

The Murphys’ donation comes at a critical moment for local organizations supporting immigrant and refugee families, as demand for services continues to rise and funding sources grow increasingly uncertain. This incredible donation marks the largest ever to COMSA since its founding in 2017.

“This gift reflects a belief in meeting people where they are and ensuring families have the support they need to build stable lives,” said Said Hassan, executive director of COMSA. “It allows us to respond to immediate needs while strengthening our ability to serve the community for years to come.”

“We are deeply grateful for this gift and for the ongoing supporters who continue to stand with our mission,” said Amanda Garcia, executive director of Casa Alba Melanie. “This investment in our agencies sends a powerful message that when we work together and uplift one another, we strengthen our entire community. Especially in moments of uncertainty, we hold firm to a simple truth: love is more powerful than hate, and hope is stronger than fear.”

As regional and national conversations around immigration and race continue to evolve, Green Bay residents increasingly turn to these culturally specific local organizations for information, reassurance, and support. It is our hope that this commitment inspires others to stand in solidarity with their Hispanic, African American, immigrant and refugee neighbors.

The Murphys' contribution arrives ahead of Give BIG Green Bay, the community-wide 24-hour fundraising event taking place February 25—26. COMSA is one of the 50 nonprofits participating this year and will host an Open House between 2 to 6 p.m. for community members to see its work in action. The event will be held at COMSA’s Offices, 201 Military Avenue Suite 101, Green Bay, WI, 54303.

Help Us Match a National Award for Green Bay’s Culture of Health

The City of Green Bay has been named one of just nine recipients of the prestigious 2024 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Culture of Health Prize, chosen from over 300 applicants nationwide. This national recognition highlights the city’s collective efforts to create a more just, healthy, and equitable community, led by four collaborating organizations: Wello, We All Rise, COMSA, and Casa ALBA Melanie.

The award includes a $250,000 unrestricted investment to be shared among these organizations. To build on this momentum, the partners are launching a $250,000 Community Match Campaign to double the impact of the prize and invest in transformational initiatives such as housing stabilization, youth mentorship, crisis response, mental health services, and culturally rooted healing.

Local businesses, foundations, and individuals are invited to join the movement and match this once-in-a-lifetime award. For more information or to get involved, contact Natalie Bomstad at natalie@wello.org.

Together, we can turn this recognition into long-lasting community change.
